The story
The Marina Barrage opened in 2008 as a dam across the mouth of the Marina Channel, creating the freshwater Marina Reservoir in the heart of the city. It serves the dual purpose of boosting water supply and easing flooding in low-lying areas, a landmark of Singapore's water-management story. Its grassy rooftop has become a popular spot for picnics, kite-flying and skyline views.

Getting there
