Cycling the Waterfront: A Park-Connector Day by Singapore's Bay

I grew up riding the promenade back home, so a whole city stitched together by waterfront cycling paths felt like a gift. I hired a bike for the day, clipped my water bottle on, and set off along the coast with nothing planned except to follow the sea for as far as it would let me.

This is a route you can pedal at your own gentle rhythm. Four stops, mostly downhill on effort, all linked by shaded park connectors. Set off early to dodge the midday heat, keep something cold in your bottle cage, and let the breeze off the bay do half the work.

Your day, stop by stopEast Coast Park · Marina Barrage · Gardens by the Bay · Marina Bay Sands
  1. 01
Early morning, wheels down by 8am

    East Coast Park

Marine Parade MRT Station MRT · 12.3 min walkStay 2–3 hoursBest Early morning or evening

East Coast Park is the obvious place to start a waterfront ride: a 15km ribbon of coast with a dedicated cycling and skating path running right beside the sea. I rolled past sandy lagoons and picnic spots, with joggers and other cyclists but never a crowd. The far end thins out beautifully.

The park's real charm is the connectivity. It links onward to other parks, so you can ride for hours without touching a road. Grab a kaya toast breakfast at one of the hawker centres along the shore before you push west.

Ride against the sea breeze on the way out so it pushes you home when your legs are tired.

  2. From East Coast Park it's about 5.0 km to Marina Barrage — alight at Gardens By the Bay MRT Station MRT and it's a 9.3-min walk from there.

    02
    Late morning, a breezy pause

    Marina Barrage

Gardens By the Bay MRT Station MRT · 9.3 min walkStay 1–2 hoursBest Late afternoon to sunset

Marina Barrage sits where the ride opens up to the skyline. I hauled the bike up and flopped onto the green rooftop lawn, watching kites tug against the wind and picnickers spread out with the whole city as a backdrop. It is one of those spots that instantly slows your pulse.

If you want a breather off the saddle, the Sustainable Singapore Gallery inside covers the story of the dam and the country's water. Otherwise, just lie on the grass a while. The panorama across Marina Bay is the reward for the morning's pedalling.

The rooftop is exposed with little shade, so a hat and sunscreen make the lawn far more enjoyable.

  3. From Marina Barrage it's about 873 m to Gardens by the Bay — alight at Gardens By the Bay MRT Station MRT and it's a 8-min walk from there.

    03
    Afternoon into golden hour

    Gardens by the Bay

Gardens By the Bay MRT Station MRT · 8 min walkStay 3–4 hoursBest Late afternoon into the evening

From the barrage it is a short roll around to Gardens by the Bay, where I locked the bike and went in on foot. The Supertree Grove is the showstopper, giant vertical gardens you can wander beneath, with the elevated OCBC Skyway strung between them if you want the aerial view.

Time it for late afternoon and you can duck into the cool of the Cloud Forest conservatory, with its indoor mountain and 35-metre waterfall, then emerge as the Supertrees light up. Best value cool-down of the whole ride.

The two conservatories are ticketed and air-conditioned, a welcome escape from the heat if you have been in the saddle all day.

  4. From Gardens by the Bay it's about 379 m to Marina Bay Sands — alight at Bayfront MRT Station MRT and it's a 3.3-min walk from there.

    04
    Evening, lights on the water

    Marina Bay Sands

Bayfront MRT Station MRT · 3.3 min walkStay 2–3 hoursBest Evening for the light show

I finished the day at Marina Bay Sands, wheeling slowly along the promenade as the three towers lit up over the water. Down at the base, The Shoppes has its own indoor canal and sampan rides, and the whole waterfront comes alive as the evening light show plays across the bay.

The famous infinity pool up top is reserved for hotel guests, but the SkyPark observation deck is open to visitors if you want the sweeping view. After a day of pedalling, though, I was happy just to sit by the water and watch it all glow.

The verdict

A day on two wheels along this shoreline is the best-value adventure in the city. You pay for a bike hire and maybe a conservatory ticket, and in return you get beaches, kites, Supertrees and a skyline finale, all threaded together by paths that never once put you next to traffic. Go early, ride slow, drink water.

East Coast Park

★★★★★Multi Vitamins· a month agoEast Coast area and wanted to share my thoughts on East Coast Park. It remains one of the best-maintained spaces in Singapore, and its extensive connectivity to other parks makes it an ideal destination for long walks or cycling trips. I particularly enjoyed the ability to ride my bicycle all the way to Gardens by the Bay via the park connector; it was always such a calm and refreshing experience. The park offers a wonderful atmosphere with its blend of lush greenery and sea views. It is exceptionally well-equipped for families and fitness enthusiasts, featuring dedicated exercise stations, children’s play areas, and wide, separate paths for cycling and walking that prevent the space from feeling crowded. Beyond the scenery, the facilities are excellent. There are convenient bicycle rentals, a variety of dining options in the restaurant area where you can enjoy the sea breeze, and well-maintained BBQ pits and shelters. For those interested in staying longer, the designated camping areas are a great touch, and I’ve always found the washrooms and bathing facilities to be very clean. Overall, it is a perfect place to relax, exercise, and enjoy nature, whether you are visiting alone or with friends and family.
★★★★★chaami de silva· 5 months agoEast Coast Park is one of the best and most well-maintained parks in Singapore. It is a very big park and is beautifully connected to other parks across Singapore, making it perfect for long walks or cycling trips. The park has lots of nice scenery, with greenery and sea views that make the atmosphere very relaxing. In some areas, there are exercise equipment stations and children’s play areas, which are great for families and fitness lovers. There is a dedicated cycling path and a separate walking path, both of which are wide and well maintained, so it never feels crowded. You can also rent bicycles, and there are fun activities and attractions that bring in many people. The park has a restaurant area where you can enjoy a variety of foods while feeling the cool sea breeze. You can book BBQ pits, and there are huts available for shelter in case of rain. There are also designated camping areas for those who want to stay overnight. I used to live near the East Coast area, and what I loved most was riding my bicycle all the way to Gardens by the Bay, as the park connector makes this possible. It was always a calm and refreshing experience. On top of that, the washrooms and bathing areas are very clean and well maintained. Overall, East Coast Park is a perfect place to relax, exercise, eat, and enjoy nature, whether alone, with friends, or with family.
★★★★★Sandy Yeo· 4 months agoNice place to walk, enjoy the sea breeze. Or one can enjoy coffee/drinks at one of the restaurant or cafe or even hawker centre. Cycling or inline blading can let u exercise and head to less crowded spot on the further end of the beach.
★★★★min· 6 months agosuch a gorgeous place, it was such a fun date for my bf and i, however i do wish there were more shelters because we had to relocate our picnic mat 3 times because of the bad weather!! for ppl like me who loves picking up seashells... sry thr arent much here or maybe its just zone c..
★★★★★Tose· 2 months agoThis is one of the most beautiful parks I’ve ever visited in Singapore. It has plenty of trees, clean walking paths, and comfortable benches where people can relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. I especially recommend visiting in the morning because the weather is cooler and the park feels very refreshing There are also many trash bins around the park, so it is convenient for visitors who bring drinks or snacks. The area is well maintained, clean, and perfect for taking a walk, reading a book, or simply spending quiet time away from the busy city. 🌳

Marina Barrage

★★★★★Loki· a month agoMarina Barrage is one of Singapore’s most complete attractions, combining stunning waterfront views, green open spaces, sustainability education, and excellent facilities all in one place. Whether you’re looking for a scenic walk, a running route, a family outing, or simply a place to relax, Marina Barrage delivers What impressed me most was the variety of experiences packed into a single destination. The dam itself offers beautiful views of both the calm reservoir and the open sea, making it a fantastic place for walking, jogging, or enjoying the sea breeze. The viewpoint overlooking the southern waters is equally rewarding, with panoramic views of ships, turquoise waters, and dramatic cloud formations that make for great photography The iconic Green Roof is another highlight. The large grassy lawn attracts families flying kites, friends having picnics, photographers, and visitors simply enjoying the skyline. The views of Marina Bay Sands, Gardens by the Bay, and the Singapore Flyer are spectacular, especially on a clear day For those interested in sustainability and engineering, the Sustainable Singapore Gallery adds another dimension to the visit. It provides a fascinating look at Singapore’s water management, climate resilience, and sustainability efforts. While some exhibits require a fair bit of reading, the gallery is well-designed and informative, and guided tours are available for visitors who want a deeper understanding I also appreciated the thoughtful design of the entire facility. There are plenty of sheltered areas to escape the midday heat, spacious walkways, and numerous vantage points to admire both the city skyline and the surrounding waters. The architecture itself is impressive and reflects Singapore’s ability to blend functionality with public spaces
★★★★★Aishaary· 6 months agoFor a calm and enjoyable family vacation, this is one of the best spots in Singapore. I arrived at 9 a.m., and there was no crowd at all—I was even alone there. That was exactly what I wanted, so my family could freely take photos together with a panoramic view of Singapore’s iconic buildings. Even as it got closer to midday, the breeze here was pleasantly refreshing.
★★★★★Dan Lim· 2 months agoOne of the best place in Singapore to chill in the evening. You get good views almost all around the grass platform. People flying kites and the night view is also great. We had picnic here a few times and always a good time spent.
★★★★★Multi Vitamins· a month agoMarina Barrage in Singapore and wanted to share my impressions of the site. It is a remarkable location that successfully combines essential infrastructure with recreational space. The views of the city skyline and Marina Bay Sands are particularly impressive, especially during sunset, making it an ideal spot for a picnic or kite flying. Beyond the leisure aspects, the sustainable engineering of the barrage is quite significant. It plays a vital role in local water supply and flood control, and the on-site Sustainable Singapore Gallery provides excellent insights into the country's conservation efforts. If you plan to visit, please be aware that it can become quite crowded on weekends. Additionally, there is limited shade available, so I would recommend bringing sunscreen or an umbrella. Overall, it is a highly recommended destination for anyone who appreciates scenic green spaces and innovative urban design.
★★★★★Paradee Saikumfu· 3 months agoGreat spot for a relaxing day out. The views of the city skyline and Marina Bay are stunning, especially at sunset. It’s perfect for picnics, kite flying, and leisurely walks. Facilities are clean and well-maintained, and the atmosphere is family-friendly. A must-visit for both locals and tourists!

★★★★★Anuradha Perera· a month agoWe would like to express our sincere appreciation to JIAYU😍… for the excellent housekeeping service during our stay at Marina Bay, Singapore. You truly made a difference to our experience, and we are very grateful.
★★★★★David Glanzrock· a month agoEvery other luxury hotel I’ve stayed at left me questioning whether it was worth the price — Marina Bay Sands answered that question definitively. Worth every penny. The service was exceptional, the hotel immaculately clean, everything well-appointed and intentional. And the infinity pool? Quite simply, it’s worth the visit on its own.
★★★★HoHo Yang· a month agoThis is a review for the overall development including the mall side. Nice landmark with some scenic views around the area. Iconic architecture with good natural lighting. Well maintained and upkeeping at a very high level. Good to take photos if you are bringing friends and family that have never been to SG. But even the food court is quite costly. Can't say my review is complete as I have never stayed in the hotel before
★★★★★Nicky Tong· 2 months agoOur recent stay at Marina Bay Sands was a fantastic experience overall. We had a beautiful room with a balcony overlooking the gardens, which gave us the perfect view of the nightly light show. It was such a great way to end each evening. The staff on the hotel side truly bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable. They are constantly checking to make sure you have everything you need and always do so with warmth and professionalism. The amenities in the room and the gifts were really special. As expected, this is an incredibly popular and iconic hotel, which does mean there are quite a few procedures in place to manage access to the facilities. Non-hotel guests are mostly unable to access the pool and restaurants, which is understandable, but we did find the rooftop bar experience a little over the top. Even as hotel guests, we needed a wrist stamp, wristband, and had to hand over our credit card for the duration of our visit. The infinity pool really is as amazing as it looks online. However, it’s worth noting that there are no umbrellas, and the cabanas are both difficult to secure and surprisingly hot due to the lack of airflow. One fantastic touch was the complimentary sunscreen available at the pool, which saved us as we hadn’t brought any. The hotel is attached to a casino, and it definitely carries that atmosphere throughout parts of the property. That said, the location is exceptional. It's directly connected to a high-end shopping mall, a great food court, and with easy access to the gardens and surrounding attractions. Overall, despite a few small frustrations with the bar, it’s an impressive hotel experience and absolutely worth staying at least once for the experience.
★★★★★Aashini Moddi· 5 months agoAbsolutely outstanding stay at Marina Bay Sands! From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Our baggage was delivered to the room super fast, which made check-in smooth and stress-free. A special shoutout to the WhatsApp chat concierge — this service is next-level. Every time we requested something while we were out, the items were already waiting in our room when we returned. That level of efficiency and thoughtfulness is truly impressive. Housekeeping deserves huge praise for their attention to detail. They didn’t just clean the room — they neatly organized our phone and laptop cables, left cups exactly where we needed them, and made sure extra bedsheets we requested were already placed in the room. The room was also restocked daily without us having to ask. Breakfast was excellent with a wide variety, and the breakfast staff were very friendly and attentive, making mornings even more enjoyable. The infinity pool is absolutely amazing, and the SkyBridge walk is fantastic and wheelchair-friendly, which we truly appreciated. The view from the room is stunning — waking up and ending the day with that skyline view felt unreal. This hotel truly spoils you with both luxury and service and sets the bar extremely high for what a hotel stay should be. After staying here, your expectations for hotel standards will definitely be raised. A flawless experience and highly recommended. We would absolutely stay here again!
