The story
The National Museum of Singapore is the nation's oldest museum, with roots dating to the mid-19th century, and it moved into its grand neo-classical building on Stamford Road in 1887. Topped by a distinctive dome, it chronicles Singapore's history from its earliest days through the colonial era, the Japanese Occupation and independence. A modern glass-and-steel extension was added in the 2000s, blending heritage architecture with contemporary galleries.
