The story
Fort Canning Park is a historic hilltop in central Singapore that has been significant for centuries, once the seat of 14th-century Malay royalty and later the site of a British fort and colonial government house. During World War II, the underground Battlebox command centre beneath the hill was where the British decision to surrender Singapore was made in 1942. Today the leafy park blends archaeological heritage with gardens, event lawns and its famous tree tunnel.
