National Stadium: the concert-goer’s guide
Singapore's 55,000-seat domed stadium — where the biggest world tours land.
The National Stadium is the centrepiece of the Kallang sports precinct (rebranded The Kallang), a 55,000-seat bowl under the world's largest free-spanning dome, opened in 2014 on the site of the old National Stadium. It is where stadium-scale tours play in Singapore — the room that gets the two-night runs and the K-pop reunions.
The dome is closed and air-cooled for most concerts, so this is a rain-proof, ceiling-covered show — pleasant by Singapore standards, but the bowl still holds heat when 50,000 people are in it. The stadium sits on an island of reclaimed land between the Kallang Basin and Geylang River, ringed by the Kallang Wave Mall, the OCBC Aquatic Centre and a waterfront promenade, so the pre-show hour is genuinely nice: you can eat, sit by the water and walk in.

How the seating works
Concerts are sold as a standing pen ("pit" or "standing") on the pitch plus tiered CAT seating rising through three levels. Restricted-view categories behind and beside the stage are usually priced separately — read the seating map on your ticket page rather than assuming a category number means a good view.
Arriving
Aim to be at Stadium MRT 90 minutes before showtime. Bag checks run at the perimeter gates, the walk from the station to your gate can take 10–15 minutes once crowds build, and merchandise queues at big K-pop and stadium shows start hours earlier. Gate letters are printed on the ticket; walking the wrong way around the bowl adds a full lap.
After the show
This is the part visitors underestimate. Fifty thousand people leave at once and Stadium station meters entry, so expect a 20–40 minute queue if you head straight there. Three better options: walk 15–20 minutes along the Kallang Riverside promenade to Mountbatten or Nicoll Highway station and board an emptier train; sit down for supper in Kallang or Geylang for half an hour and let it clear; or pre-book a ride and walk out to the pick-up points on Stadium Boulevard rather than standing in the taxi line.

Things worth knowing
- Bag size limits are enforced at the gates for most events — a small cross-body bag saves you the cloakroom queue.
- Buy an EZ-Link card or use contactless on the MRT before the show, not after: the top-up machines at Stadium station are the worst queue of the night.
- The seating bowl is cooled but the concourse and the walk in are not — dress for warm, humid air either side of the show.
- If you have standing tickets, eat before you go in. Getting back to the pit after a food run is slow at capacity.
